How many black armored SUVs do you need?

So I'm hard at work today on the Mayor's Procurement Indicators Report for FY06 and had a great view of the (P)resident's motorcade as it drove by, first down Broadway at about 5:55p and then strangely up Broadway a few minutes ago. I guess respect for the law is laughable to try to work into a sentence about Bushie but it's easy to see why since I guess presidents are unquestionably above traffic laws.

I was listening to NPR at the same time and at 6p they reported that he was already in the church service after laying a wreath at the WTC site (in pools of water-weird, I've never seen those before...) He must have taken a lot of time to show his respect between 5:59 and 6p. But he's such a good man, he goes to church.

Have you ever seen a presidential motorcade? First of all, Broadway was completely blocked off to all traffic since about 5p. The first thing I heard was a massive rumbling and I run to the window to see 15 of americas finest reving their hogs in formation. then comes at least 5 black vans with flashing lights all armored of course, probably for the camera men and media handlers. Then the presidential limo, flags waving, but wait here comes another! Which one contains King George? The terrorists will never know... no waving on this tour. And following that there at least 20 armored SUVs with special rigs, antennae sticking out of steel plating on the roofs and other accoutrements of power. Many of the SUVs had the dark windows rolled down and from my 9th floor aerie I could see muscled arms like tree roots at an angle that made me think they were holding rifles just out of the public eye. NYPD overtime, gas for all these rigs, how much do you think it costs to go from some undisclosed place to Ground Zero?

Is this what democracy looks like?
